One of the most versatile packaging machines available from Viking Masek is our Vertical Form Fill Seal machine (VFFS) M400. This adaptable machine is used by clients packaging products like coffee, cheese, snack foods, baking ingredients and more. They're looking for a customizable, easy-to-use, reliable packaging machine that can handle packages of multiple sizes - from small 1-3 oz. coffee frac packs to large 25 lb. bulk fills of cocoa powder. This machine can accommodate many different bag styles, including the popular Doypack. The M400 VFFS machine is a fit for many seeking a versatile, robust packaging machine to handle these diverse demands.

While competitors may have packaging machinery that vertically forms, fills, and seals, Viking Masek prides itself on its superior quality packaging machines. The M400 showcases this in a number of ways.

First, the build quality of the machine itself: The stainless steel frame sported by Viking Masek's M400 is more durable and sanitary than the painted, mild steel frames many competitors use.

Secondly, the jaw drive on Viking Masek's Vertical Form Fill Seal M400 is enclosed and mounted on a heavy duty 1” thick aluminum backbone. The jaw is actuated by a continuously rotating motor which drastically reduces wear and tear because it is not constantly starting, stopping, and reversing like a pneumatically actuated jaw.

Third, our pull belt pulleys are made of solid anodized aluminum while many competitors use plastic pulleys which wear and break much faster. Additionally, our pulley motors are enclosed in the cabinet and have a black shroud to keep any dust and debris from entering the cabinet – some competitors have exposed pull belt motors that can be contaminated with product.

Fourth, unlike some of our competitors, all of our jaws are made of one solid piece of material. Some packaging machinery manufacturers will use a combination of two or three different plates pressed together, often resulting in warped jaws (due to the different heating/cooling characteristics of the materials). This results in inadequate seal pressure, leaked bags, and requires the use of shims to better align the jaws.

Finally, the incredible service offered by Viking Masek's Service Department and Engineers is second-to-none. Not only does Viking Masek's team of sales consultants and project managers ensure that our clients' needs are met from first contact to installation, our Service Department also works tirelessly to ensure minimal downtime if training or maintenance are required. In fact, 99% of our service calls can be answered and fixed remotely over the phone, via video chat, or by our Engineers accessing the software remotely from our location. We understand that downtime for our clients costs them money. Therefore, we provide a quality, tested product upon installation and provide service to maintain that equipment as long as it's in use.

Because of its versatility and superior quality, the VFFS M400 packaging machine from Viking Masek is used by a wide variety of industries. Let's take a look at some specifics.

One of the most popular applications the M400 is used for is packaging coffee - both whole bean and ground. The Vertical Form Fill Seal M400 machine works well for the coffee industry in the following ways:

  • Coffee producers typically package multiple sizes of bags for their products; the M400 VFFS machine is versatile and its optional assemblies can handle the switch between small frac packs, 12 oz. stand-up retail bags, and larger bulk fills with minimal downtime.
  • Coffee bags typically require a one-way de-gassing valve to be attached to the bags once filled. The M400 VFFS can accommodate that need with a simple valve applicator to maintain the integrity and freshness of the coffee once packaged.
  • The label applicator available for the M400 is ideal for packaging coffee. Instead of pausing production to switch out films for a new roast to be packaged, the label applicator allows for the same film to be used and simply applies a new label on the bags with the new roast. For coffee producers with many coffee flavors, this saves valuable time and money!
